SHIFTING PARADIGMS
ECONOMICS IN THE 21ST CENTURY
17-19 November, 2017 I Aberdeen Political Economy Group
Coming of age in the 21st century, economics students of today are faced with a unique set of international challenges. Our increasingly globalised world bears unprecedented opportunities and dangers at the same time.
It is exciting to witness how technological advancements and continued economic growth can lift people out of poverty and improve human lives. Yet at the same time, we are deeply concerned about the threats that the automation of production processes and rising levels of greenhouse gas emissions pose to both people and our planet.
We believe that such questions of economic, environmental, and social justice can only be understood and tackled from a multidisciplinary perspective. Cultural, religious and ideological differences play a major role in shaping the global political economy, making insights from fields like Political Science, Sociology, and Geography crucial elements of our analytical approach.
With Shifting Paradigms, we aim to create the critical and diverse academic forum we need to uncover and debate the economic challenges of our time. By connecting different stakeholders of interdisciplinary and pluralist economic thought with each other, we furthermore hope to inspire the development of new ideas and intellectual alliances.
We would like to extend a warm invitation to all like-minded individuals and organisations to join us in making our conference a successful and inspirational event for all participants.

ABOUT US
The Aberdeen Political Economy Group (APEG) is a student society affiliated with the University of Aberdeen.
Our aim is to create a pluralistic, inter-disciplinary forum that actively promotes the exchange of ideas, resources and materials related to contemporary socio-political and economic issues.
We are convinced that scholarship must always be informed by a variety of perspectives, insights, and academic schools of thought. In this spirit, we host talks, panel debates, workshops, and other events for students and members of the general public.
